• Which system is not working properly?
  • Please check these items before scheduling a service appointment. They could save you time and money!
    • Thermostat Check
      • Is the selector switch on the thermostat in the “heat” position? Sometimes the switches appear to be in the right position even though they are not. Flip the switch to the “off” position and then back to “heat” to make sure.
      • Is the temperature set at least 3 degrees above the current room temperature?
    • At the Furnace
      • Locate the emergency shut-off switch for the furnace. Be sure this switch is in the “on” position. It is common for it to be accidentally switched off, by children, etc.
    • Electrical Panel
      • Make sure the circuit breaker for the furnace is not tripped (between “on” and “off”). If it is, try resetting it by switching it to “off” and then back to the “on” position. If the breaker keeps tripping, contact Mckee’s for service.
    • Air Flow Check.
      • Make sure the furnace filter is clean.
      • Make sure the return air grille is not blocked.
    • Check your oil tank to make sure it contains oil.
      • Most aboveground tanks have a tank gauge; however, sometimes gauges will malfunction.
      • Underground tanks normally don’t have gauges. As a double check, try to determine how long it’s been since your last delivery. If possible, find your last delivery ticket.
  • For Oil Systems Only
    • Locate the system’s RESET BUTTON. The button is typically on a control box located on the burner, furnace or even the chimney pipe. (You may need to remove the front panel of the system jack to see the control with the reset button.) Reset buttons are usually RED or SILVER.
    • If you cannot locate the reset button, ask your certified McKee technician to point it out to you on his next maintenance visit.
    • Press the RESET BUTTON ONLY ONCE! Pressing the button multiple times could flood the firebox with oil.
