Summer is here, so you’re probably turning on your air conditioning and hoping it will still work.

If it’s not working but making strange noises, or the energy bill is through the roof, it may be time to think about replacing the old HVAC system with something new.

And when it comes time for a new HVAC system, there are many options to consider. One of those options—one of the most popular today—is ductless split systems.

What are Ductless Split Systems?

Ductless split systems are heating and cooling systems that are small enough to be installed in a home. The name “ductless” comes from the fact that these systems do not require a ductwork system to work.

Each ductless split system has two parts: the evaporator, which is inside the home, and the condenser, which is usually outside. It, however, has a refrigerant line that connects the evaporator to the condenser.

The system is also called “mini-split systems” or “mini-splits.”

Ductless split systems have several advantages over conventional HVAC systems:

  • They are easy to install, and a technician can retrofit them into many existing homes without extensive remodeling work.
  • They work very efficiently, so they cost much less to operate than conventional heating and cooling systems.
  • They can regulate the temperature in specific parts of an existing home—for example, if you want to heat and cool only one room or floor of your home. It makes them very economical if you’re only heating or cooling part of your house.
  • They can solve problems with inadequate insulation and help prevent mould growth.

How does it work?

A ductless system consists of an outdoor unit, which resembles a traditional air conditioning unit, and an indoor unit mounted on your wall. The indoor unit distributes the cooled or heated air through its vents, while the outdoor component works just like a traditional HVAC system.

You can even have multiple indoor units to heat or cool several different rooms or areas.
